Neuromuscular Massage
Neuromuscular Massage Therapy (NMT) is a type of massage different from other massages, in that pressure is applied to the skin so to stimulate designated areas of skeletal muscle. NMT focuses on the treatment of trigger points, by softening them and therefore reducing chronic pain. Trigger points transfer pain to other parts of the body, so this massage works the body`s soft tissue to equalize the central nervous system.
This therapy is extremely effective for lower back pain caused by soft tissue injury. The massage pressure is normally given with fingers, knuckles, and elbows.
NMT has become a leading method in establishing, treating and preventing soft tissue injuries and chronic pain in many massage treatments, physical therapy, chiropractic, nursing, etc. The therapy program can compliment ones health care regiment.
To be trained in Neuromuscular Therapy one must study physiology of the nervous system and how it affects muscular and skeletal systems, kinesiology and biomechanics and the workings of a clinical or medical environment. After completing all NMT training courses, a NMT Certification Exam can be taken. Certification is optional.
There are quite a few schools available for training. One of these schools is the Southeastern School of Neuromuscular Massage, with campuses in Columbia and Charleston, South Carolina, Nashville, Tennessee and Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Southeastern School of Neuromuscular Massage offers small classes, experienced faculty, assistance with career placement, day or evening classes and hands on training. The programs at the school are open to anyone looking for a quality education for a career in Neuromuscular Massage Therapy.
